Obama declines debate on Fox

Faux News

Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) is now the second candidate to decline a proposed debate on Fox News. Former Senator John Edwards, (D-NC), was the first to formally boycott the Fox News debate, which is sponsored by the Congressional Black Caucus, of which Obama is a member.

Can you blame him? In a recent speech where Fox News Channel chairman Roger Ailes accepted the RTNDF’s 2007 First Amendment Leadership Award, he maliciously joked about the name similarity between Osama and Obama:

And it is true that Barack Obama is on the move. I don’t know if it’s true that President Bush called Musharraf and said, ‘Why can’t we catch this guy?’

For the record, CNN ran Obama’s name over a picture of Osama, but Wolf Blitzer apologized. Don’t hold your breath waiting for Ailes to make amends.

Update: Hillary Clinton will not participate in a Democratic debate co-hosted by Fox News Channel this fall, campaign aides indicated Monday (09 April 2007).
