Last week looney Colorado Republican, Tom Tancredo, again called for the U.S. to bomb Mecca. During a debate in Iowa on Sunday, August 5, Tancredo stated:
If it is up to me, we are going to explain that an attack on this homeland of that nature would be followed by an attack on the holy sites in Mecca and Medina,
State Department spokesman Tom Casey labeled the comment as “absolutely crazy”. Other conservatives followed suit.
Tancredo is repeating comments he made in July 2005 during a radio interview with Pat Campbell on WFLA Radio:
TANCREDO: “Well, what if you said something like – if this happens in the United States, and we determine that it is the result of extremist, fundamentalist Muslims, you know, you could take out their holy sites.”
CAMPBELL: “You’re talking about bombing Mecca?”
TANCREDO: “Yeah”
Tancredo has not attempted to clarify or apologize for the comments made on either occasion. He’s a nutbag.
